![]() Another one of those strange things on Google Maps is Kazakhstans Pentagram. The figure measures roughly 1,200 feet (366 meters) in diameter. 52.47944° N, 62.18631° E - these coordinates can be fed into Google Maps to clearly see the figure in the satellite view. You can get a rough idea of the areas available in Google Maps by zooming way out, so an entire country or even continent is in view, then click on the the yellow man in the bottom corner of the map. Even a satellite view of an area can make a story more interesting and understandable. And like their program Google Maps and Google Street View, there are many curiosities. This ingenious program juxtaposes billions ofsatellite images to recreate a cartography of the globe. The rest of the landscape has been blurred and hidden. Google Earth is a tool that allows you to explore the entire Earth without moving from home. ![]() The only things that are clear are the names of the cities and mountains. Roads and streets appear to be nameless and are not clearly marked. I like being able to tap a city name or an address in a book and then letting Google actually show me what the author is describing. If you zoom in over North Korea on Google Maps, you will only be able to see outlines of different regions and their names. I'm a big fan of reading ebooks on my phone. There is a quite a lot of StreetView coverage all around the globe. It is astounding how much street view footage there is for streets in the U.S. An integral part of the process is using the street view feature in Google Maps. Over the past decade, the camera-equipped car, aerial drones and the on-foot trekkers have captured some interesting images from locations around the world. I often used Google Maps to determine the roads I wanted to ride and then created the route in Basecamp. ![]() Early in my Basecamp days I found a value in having Google Maps running as well. ![]()
